Product Developer – Outdoor & Sports Clothing

Key Duties

Working within the Product Development Team and reporting to the Head of Product, you will:

  • Research and advise on product market trends, documenting, and communicating new design concepts, fabric and trim research, construction processes and manufacturing solutions.
  • Collaborate with team to identify new product opportunities and propose product solutions. Subsequently implementing new technologies, construction techniques and features that benefit Jöttnar’s product.
  • Communicate new products through the production of detailed Technical Packs and Bill of Materials, including, but not limited to: fully annotated spec drawings, fit direction, and material information.
  • Work with the Head of Product in requesting cost prices, ensuring Jöttnar’s seasonal target prices are achieved.
  • Effectively liaise with Jöttnar’s manufacturing partners to ensure full realisation of assigned prototypes, in-line with the critical path.
  • Contribute to product and quality standards, ensuring consistency across all styles in the range plan.
  • Manage trim design, development and sourcing, following through to production.
  • Maintain awareness of leading, and first to market innovations in the Sports and Outdoor industry, working closely with fabric and trim suppliers to implement into Jöttnar’s Innovation Strategy.
  • Work with Jöttnar’s quality team and manufacturing partners to resolve fit, style and construction concerns. Technical performance and product end use to be always considered.
  • Ensure key deadlines are met in-line with critical path.
  • Support in the creation of field and wear test samples. Send samples to Jöttnar’s Pro Team members, recording and analysing performance, fabric, fit or trim functionality feedback. Highlight any concerns to Head of Product.
  • Collaborate with Jöttnar’s quality team in testing materials and trims to assess suitability for various construction techniques and end uses, providing recommendations on final selection, as well as documenting results through the process.
  • Work cross-functionally, as and when required, to support wider business objectives and projects.

Ideal Candidate:

  • A technically relevant qualification such as Fashion Design or Sportswear Design, preferably at degree level.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience within a similar role.
  • Excellent attention to detail, including accurate data entry skills.
  • You can effectively balance autonomy and collaboration.
  • You have a strong knowledge of Jöttnar’s products and an interest or involvement in outdoor activities.
  • Passionate and positive about developing and improving product; proactively identifying issues and implementing solutions.
  • Open to self-development and learning to grow and develop within the role.
  • Strong time-management skills; able to prioritise tasks and a willingness to be flexible.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe Illustrator.

Remuneration, Benefits and Conditions

  • Annual salary: £30,000 DOE.
  • Pension.

  • 28 working days paid holiday per year, in addition to normal bank and public holidays.
  • 4 day working week, subject to business requirements, following your probationary period.
  • Office hours 9-5.

  • Our Cardiff office, just off the M4, is your formal place of work and is 10 mins from the city centre. Cardiff is the cultural, educational, political and international-sports capital of Wales. There is climbing, world class mountain biking, white water rafting, beaches and surfing a short distance from our office. The Brecon Beacons is 40 mins away. Bristol airport is within a 30 min drive.
